Thirty-three (33) Kodama Reijo (Sacred Places)
The reijo-meguri (sacred places pilgrimage) in Kodama district has a long history and it is said to have started as a memorial service for victims of the major eruption of Mt. Asama-san occurred in 1783 (Tenmei 3rd). According to the ancestors’ practice, people selected thirty-three temples in Kodama district and repeatedly made a pilgrimage, praying for their peace of minds. Fudasho-jiin (temples regularly visited by pilgrims and exchanging amulets with them) can be found across one city and three towns: Honjo-shi, Misato-machi, Kamisato-machi and Kamikawa-machi.
